hum saab bharteeya hein (hindi)

A beautiful song praising the spread and diversity of India. It seems to be a NCC song.. Was fortunate to learn it at KV.

aag hui hein roshan (hindi camp fire opening song)

Campfire opening song (hindi)

har desh mein tu (hindi prayer)

A beautiful song that I had learnt in my Guides class. It seems like the wisdom of Gita is shining in these simple lines. No wonder it felt so special listening to it as a kid.

Har desh mein tu, har vesh mein tu
Tere naam anek tu ek hi hai
Teri rang bhoomi yah vishva bhara
Sab khel mein mel mein tu hi to hain

Present in every space, in every form,
You are just “One” called by many different names
This whole Universe is your celebrative playground,
And you are present in each game, in each festival

Sagar se ttha badal banke
Badal se gira jal hokar ke
Phir nahar bani nadiya gahri,
Tere bhinna prakar tu ek hi hain

Rising from the ocean as a cloud,
You pour down upon us as rain
Becoming a gentle stream or a gushing river,
You are the same “One” called by many different names

Mitti se anu parmanu hue
Yah vishwa jagat ka roop liya
Kahi parvat vriksha vishal hue
Saundarya tera tu ek hi hain

Present in the smallest atoms and molecules of creation,
You manifest in all the forms of this vast Universe
Taking the shape of mountains, or big trees,
Your beauty is varied, yet you are the same “One”

Yah divya dikhaya hai jisne
Vah hai Gurudev ki purna daya
Tukuda kahe aur na koi dikha
Bas tu aur main sab ek hi hai

What opened my eyes to your infinite glory,
Is the grace of my compassionate teacher
Tukada (the poet) says I see no “other”
You and me, we all are just “One”

Introduction

India is a country with a diverse and ancient culture and heritage. The myriad patriotic songs from different regions eulogizes the lyrical beauty, its rich history, culture and the spirit of freedom struggle.

With nostalgia and pride, I have compiled this list of patriotic and inspirational songs from my school days.

Some of the translations are original and some of them
have been borrowed. Contents on this website have been referenced from Kendriya Vidhyalaya Almanac, wikipedia and various other blogs and websites.

I first put this blog in the early 2000.. Just after my college. And to my surprise even today my blog and the collection standsout. Every time around Independence and Republic Day, a lot of visitors check out and that motivates me to keep this site going.

Jai Hind !!

janmakarini bharatham (malayalam)

I do not have the meaning of this beautiful song. It seems to be praising the motherland, its gifted green fields etc.

janmakarini bharatham aaaaa
karma medhini bharatham
nammalam jana kodikal than ammayakiya bharatham.. janma…

thalayil manjani mamala choodiya thanka keeridavum

nana deshakarudey nana veshathin oliyum(2)
veerapurathan samskarathin verodum mannum paaril shanthi valarthummrithiyum ammathan nettam

dhitang dhitang bole (bengali)

This is a legendary song in the Bengali folklore. This song came out in the early 1950s in order to encourage the newly independent citizens into nation building, which at that time was predominantly an agarian society at that time.

Dhitang dhitang bole, ey madole tan tole

kar anando uchhole aakash bhore jochonaaye
aaye chute shokole, ei matir dhora tole
aaj haansheer kolorole nuton jeebon godi aaye
aaye re aaye, logon boye jaaye

megh gurgur kore chander shima naaye
parul bon dake champa chute aaye
bargi ra shob h(n)ake, komor bendhe aaye
aaye re aaa aaye, aaye re aaye

dhinaka nateen teena, ei baajar e pran bina

aaj shobaar milon bina emon jibon britha jaaye
ey desh tomar amar, ei aamra bhori khamar
aar aamra godi shopon diye, shonar kamonaaye
aaye re aaye, logon boye jaaye

maa telugu talliki (telugu)

Maa Telugu Talliki (మా తెలుగు తల్లికి) is the official song of the state Andhra PradeshIndia. It was written by Sri Sankarambadi Sundaraachari

Maa Telugu Thalliki Mallepoodanda,

maa kannathalliki mangalarathulu,
kadupulo bangaru kanuchoopulo karuna,
chirunavvulo sirilu dorlinchu maathalli.

galagalaa godaari kadilipothuntenu
birabiraa krishnamma paruguliduthuntenu
bangaaru pantalae panduthayee
muripaala muthyalu doralutai.

amaravathi nagara apuroopa silpaalu
thyagayya gonthulo thaaraadu naadhaalu
thikkayya kalamulo thiyyandanalu
nithyamai nikhilamai nilachi vundedaaka

rudramma bhujashakthi mallamma pathibhakthi
thimmarasu dheeyukthi,krishnarayala keerthi
maa chevula ringumani maarumrogedaaka
nee atalae aaduthaam, nee paatalae paduthaam
jai telugu thalli, jai telugu thalli……

We offer Jasmine garland and Arathi to our Telugu mother land.

She swells with gold in her stomach, kindness in her eyes and pearls in her laughter,

She has bestowed rivers like Godavari and Krishna in this blessed land and reaps golden crops and pearls in its land.

This land has given precious sculptures of Amaravathi, and the songs tuned by ‘tyagayya’ the sweetness of ‘tikkanna’s writing as they stay forever immortalized. The courage of ‘rudramma’ — the loyality of ‘mallamma’ the wit of ‘timmarusu’ — the fame of ‘krishna devaraya’ until the sound resonates in every ear we play your tunes — we sing your song jai telugu talli, jaitelugu talli….

Victory to you Mother Karnataka,
The daughter of Mother
India!
Hail the land of beautiful rivers and forests!
Hail the abode of saints and seers!

A new jewel in the crown of Goddess Earth,
You are a trove of sandalwood, beauty and gold.
Victory to you Mother Karnataka,
the daughter of Mother India,
where
Rama and Krishna had their incarnations.

Resonance of the Vedas is the Mother’s lullaby,
Your fervour is what gives Her life.
Rows of green mountains are your necklaces.
Victory to you Mother Karnataka,
the daughter of Mother India
who is hailed by
Kapila,
PatañjaliGautama and Jina.

You are a sacred forest where ShankaraRamanuja,
VidyaranyaBasaveswara and Madhva dwelt.
You are the holy abode where
Ranna,
ShadakshariPonnaPampa,
Lakshmisa and Janna were born.
You are the blessed resting place of many a poet-nightingale.
Victory to you Mother Karnataka,
the daughter of Mother India
The progenitor of
NanakRamananda and Kabir.

This is the land ruled (in the past) by Tailapa and Hoysalas,
The beloved home of Dankana and
Jakkana.
This land blessed with the waters of the
Krishna,
SharavathiTunga and Kaveri.
Victory to you Mother Karnataka,
The daughter of Mother India!
(The India) of
ChaitanyaParamahamsa and Swami Vivekananda.

Garden of peace for all communities,
A sight that allures the connoisseurs,
A garden where
HindusChristiansMuslims,
Parsis and the Jains (can grow together);
The site where many kings like
Janaka ruled;
A heaven for singers and musicians.

The body of the children of Mother Kannada!
The house where the Kannada Tongue plays in joy!
Victory to you Mother Karnataka,
The daughter of Mother India!
Hail the land of beautiful rivers and forests!
Hail the abode of saints and seers!

odi vilaiyaadu paappaa (tamil)

Bharathi’s poetry about country-wide solidarity has conferred him the name “Desiya Kavi” (National Poet). His nationalistic songs arouse nationalism, unification of nation, equivalence of humanity as well as the preponderance of Tamil language.

In this poem, he is addressing the little kids about good virtues of life.

Run , run and play my little one,

You should never sit idle ever,

Play , play together with all, my little child,

You should never chide another child.

Like a little sparrow dear,

You should fly and come , my little one,

Seeing birds of varied colour, my little one,

You should fill your mind with joy.

That hen pecks and hurts, but my little one,

Join with it and play my little one,

That crow extends and steals, my little one,

But you should have pity for it my little one.

That cow rains milk and gives you , my little one,

That Cow is a good one, my little one,

That dog wags its tail and comes, my little one,

He is a good friend of man, my little one.

The horse which draws our cart, my little one,

The cow which works in the rice farm , my little one,

And the goat which lives depending on us, my little one,

Should be all supported and cared for, my little one.

Study as soon as you get up , my little one,

Then sing songs which make you merciful, my little one,

And play all the evening my little one,

Make these a practice, my little one.

You should never tell a lie my little one,

You should never tell bad about any one , my little one,

God is forever for our help, little one,

And so nothing bad will come to us, my little one.

We should never be afraid, my little one,

Of bad ,ones who do cruel deeds, my little one,

Dash and trample them , my little one,

And spit at their face, my little one.

When sorrow nears us, my little one,

We should not get helpless , my little one,

There is a very loving God, my little one,

Who will remove all sorrow, my little one.

Laziness is very bad , my little one,

Never disobey your mummy, little one,

The child who cries and wails is lame, my little one,

And so you be brave and fight my little one.

Salute the tamil country, my little one,

Which gave us birth , as our mother, my little one,

This is sweeter than nectar , my little one,

For this is the land of our forefathers, my little one.

The words of the tamil are greatest , my little one,

And so salute it and learn it my little one,

Our country of India is rich, my little one,

And so sing its praise, my little one.

In the north we have Himalayas , my little one,

And in the south we have cape comarin, my little one,

See broad great sea, my little one,

On its and west , my little one.

Vedas are the asset of this land, my little one,

Many heroes were born in this land, my little one,

This is the great India without any ills, my little one,

And so salute it as our God, my little one.

There are castes in this land, my little child,

Telling one caste is high and another is low,

Is very bad, my little one,

Those who are just, brain and education,

Are those who are great, my little one.

You must love all beings , my little one,

You must know that God is truth , my little one,

You must have a heart as firm as a diamond , my little one,

And this is the way to live, my little one.
